About

Hey,

So I started this blog to share my adventures with my friends and family. I am a 25 year old marine biologist from England with a passion for snowboarding. My career and interests lend themselves to travelling places with mountains and ocean, and have also meant that I ended up living in Arctic Norway, where the mountains meet the ocean.

I have always loved the ocean and often explored rock pools on the coasts of England when I was young. I studied marine biology at Southampton University with a year abroad in Svalbard researching the reproduction of bivalves (these are the animals that create the seashells that you find on the beach; named after their 2 shells/valves). I am currently undertaking a PhD in Bodø (a town just above the Arctic circle in Norway) focusing on analysing environmental impact from aquaculture with genomic techniques. I sequence the genomes of thousands of marine species all at once and try to figure out exactly what is living on the ocean floor from their DNA.

Besides my work, I live to snowboard. My first snowboarding lesson came from an austrian ski instructor when I was 13 and I was completely addicted from then on. I competed in freestyle whilst at university and then ended up living in Svalbard, where I took to the mountains by split board. Now that I live in Norway I get out as much as I can every day in the winter if possible, there is nothing better than riding powder under the Northen lights, or spring skiing down slushy couloirs!

I love to explore and try new things, whether it’s in my work analysing marine communities or out in nature.
I hope that you enjoy reading my blog and get inspired into some adventures of your own!

Cheerio for now 🙂
